At StudyScroll, we believe that your brain is your business. We are committed to protecting your privacy and providing a secure, high-performance learning environment. This Privacy Policy explains our approach to data processing and AI storage.

1. Privacy-First & Local Processing (BYOK Cloud Optional)

StudyScroll is designed to function with a zero-data footprint and operates 100% offline by default. Your private files, study habits, thoughts, and conversational prompts never leave your device. We do not host or operate any external servers, nor do we collect or access your study data. Specifically:

• Knowledge Ingestion: When you import study materials (PDF documents, audio recordings, video lectures, or decks), the original files are copied and stored locally within the application's secure sandbox on your device's filesystem. The extracted text, chunks, generated flashcards, and metadata are then stored in local SQLite databases and local vector databases on your device.
• On-Device AI: By default, flashcard generation, active recall priority pathing, and Study Assistant chat sessions are performed entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence or a local open-source fallback AI model. No transcripts, notes, prompts, or AI outputs are transmitted over the network or shared with third-party AI services.
• Optional Cloud AI (Bring Your Own Key): If you choose to configure and use cloud AI models (via Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or DeepSeek) using your own API keys, your prompts and relevant text chunks are transmitted directly to these providers (subject to their respective privacy terms). No keys or prompts are routed through or stored on developer-owned servers. API keys are stored securely in the local iOS Keychain.

2. Data Retention and Deletion

Because all of your study data, uploaded assets, flashcards, vector databases, and app settings are stored locally on your device's filesystem, we do not host or back up your study materials on our servers. Uninstalling StudyScroll from your iOS device will immediately and permanently delete all local databases and associated files. This action is irreversible.

3. Model Downloads & Zero-Telemetry Policy

StudyScroll enforces a strict zero-telemetry policy. There are no tracking, analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry libraries built into the app.

If you use a local fallback AI model or download custom GGUF models directly from URLs (such as huggingface.co), the app will make a standard, one-time static file download request directly to that URL. No personal data, user credentials, study documents, chat prompts, or telemetry data are collected, shared, or uploaded during this static download process.

4. Children's Privacy

StudyScroll does not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal data from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data through the app or website, please contact us immediately.
